TARAKI, LISA (1948-)

Born in 1948 in Afghanistan to an American mother and Afghan father; finished secondary school in Kabul; studied Sociology at Mills College in California, graduating with a BA in 1971; continued her studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo, receiving an MA in 1973; joined the Sociology and Anthropology Dept. at Birzeit University in Palestine in 1976, following her marriage to George Giacaman; pursued further studies and earned a PhD in Sociology from the State University of New York in 1982; has held several administrative positions at Birzeit and is a founding member of the Institute of Women’s Studies; her research and publications have focused on urban social history, the Palestinian national movement, gender dynamics in the Middle East, and informal justice systems in Palestine; has also served on the boards of several Palestinian organizations; is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Birzeit University; founding member and coordinator of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel.

تراكي، ليزا (1948 - ) ولدت في أفغانستان عام 1948 لوالد أفغاني وأم أمريكية؛ أنهت تعليمها الثانوي في كابول؛ درست علم الاجتماع في كلية ميلز Mills College في كاليفورنيا وتخرجت بدرجة الماجستير عام 1973؛ انضمت إلى دائرة علم الاجتماع والإنسان في جامعة بيرزيت في فلسطين عام 1976 بعد زواجها من جورج جقمان؛ أكملت تعليمها ونالت درجة الدكتوراه في علم الاجتماع من جامعة ولاية نيويورك عام 1982؛ تولت عدة مناصب إدارية في جامعة بيرزيت وعضو مؤسس لمعهد الدراسات النسوية؛ ركزت أبحاثها على قضايا التاريخ الاجتماعي المدني، الحركة الوطنية الفلسطينية، قضايا النوع الاجتماعي في الشرق الأوسط، ونظام القضاء غير الرسمي في فلسطين وغيرها؛ عضو مجلس إدارة في عدد من المنظمات الفلسطينية؛ أستاذة علم الاجتماع في جامعة بيرزيت؛ عضو مؤسس ومنسقة للحملة الفلسطينية للمقاطعة الأكاديمية والثقافية لإسرائيل؛ مديرة برنامج الدراسات العليا في جامعة بيرزيت.
