TAMARI, VERA (1945-)

Born in Jerusalem in 1945; graduated in Fine Arts from the Beirut College for Women, Lebanon, in 1966; specialized in Ceramics at the Instituto Statale per la Ceramica in Florence, Italy, in 1972; earned an MPhil in Islamic Art and Architecture from Oxford University, UK, in 1984; worked with the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in Oxford; member of the League of Palestinian Artists; has participated in numerous local and international shows since 1974 (group and solo exhibits); was one of the founding members of the “New Vision” artists group, which was established during the first Intifada; founding member of the Al-Wasiti Art Center in Jerusalem; member of the Sakakini General Assembly; lecturer on Islamic Art and Architecture at Birzeit University; headed the Birzeit University’s Founding Committee for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage which established the Tawfik Canaan Amulet Collection and Al-Qamariah Art Gallery in the Diana Tamari Sabbagh Center at Birzeit University; her art work is mostly ceramic based and sculpted paintings representing Palestinian scenery, people, and old family photographs; is co-author of Palestinian Village Home, published in association with the British Museum in London, and has written several specialized articles.

تماري، فيرا (1945 - ) ولدت في القدس عام 1945؛ درست الفنون الجميلة في جامعة بيروت للبنات وتخرجت عام 1966؛ تخصصت في مجال السيراميك في فلورنسا، إيطاليا عام 1972؛ نالت درجة الماجستير في الهندسة المدنية والفن الإسلامي من جامعة أكسفورد في بريطانيا عام 1984؛ عملت مع متحف أشموليون للفن والآثار في أوكسفورد؛ عضو رابطة الفنانين التشكيليين الفلسطينيين؛ شاركت في عدد من المعارض المحلية والدولية منذ عام 1974؛ عضو مؤسس لمجموعة “الرؤيا الجديدة” التي برزت خلال الانتفاضة الأولى؛ عضو مؤسس لمركز الواسطي للفنون في القدس؛ عضو الهيئة العامة لمركز خليل السكاكيني في رام الله؛ محاضرة في الفن الإسلامي والهندسة المعمارية في جامعة بيرزيت؛ رئيسة اللجنة التأسيسية لدائرة المقتنيات الأثرية والفنية في جامعة بيرزيت وأسست متحف توفيق كنعان للحجب الفلسطينية وجاليري “القمرية” ومركز “ديانا تماري صباغ” في جامعة بيرزيت؛ لها أعمال فنية في مجال السيراميك والرسومات المستوحاة من المشهد الفلسطيني؛ كتبت عدداً من المقالات المتخصصة.
