AS-SALFITI, FAHMI (1933-1980)

Born in Salfit in 1933; was a founding member of the Jordan Communist Party (JCP) from 1951; served as acting Sec.-Gen. of the JCP when Fu’ad Nassar was exiled in 1957; led the wing within the JCP, which adopted a policy of accommodation with the Jordanian regime (the movement’s other wing was led by Fu’ad Nassar and favored guerrilla activities); denigrated the method of armed struggle generally, and particularly disdained Fateh; ran the JCP headquarters from Amman after 1967 (while West Bank affairs were run by Na’im Al-Ashhab); accepted UNSC Resolution 242 and argued against guerrilla-style resistance; promoted loyalty to the Hashemite monarchy as a means of liberating the OPT; split and formed with his supporters the separate Palestine Communist Youth in 1975 (while JCP formed a separate Palestinian branch, the Palestinian Communist Organization; died in 1980.

السلفيتي، فهمي (1933-1980) من مواليد سلفيت عام 1933؛ عضو مؤسس للحزب الشيوعي الأردني من عام 1951؛ قائم بأعمال أمين عام الحزب الشيوعي الأردني بعد إبعاد فؤاد نصار عام 1957؛ قاد جناح الحزب الشيوعي الأردني الذي تبنى العمل السياسي بينما دعا الجناح الآخر للحزب بقيادة فؤاد نصار إلى العمل الفدائي؛ أدار المقر الرئيسي للحزب الشيوعي الأردني في عمان بعد الاحتلال الإسرائيلي للضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة عام 1967 (فيما كان يدير شؤون الضفة الغربية نعيم الأشهب)؛ قبل قرار مجلس الأمن للأمم المتحدة 242؛ شكل مع مؤيديه حزب الشباب الشيوعي الفلسطيني المنفصل عام 1975 (فيما شكل الحزب الشيوعي الأردني فرعاً فلسطينياً منفصلاً، عرف باسم المنظمة الشيوعية الفلسطينية)؛ توفي عام 1980.
