AL-DAJANI, BURHAN (1921-2000)

Born in Jaffa in 1921; studied Economics at the AUB, graduating with a BA in 1940, and subsequently teaching there until 1944; later studied Law and received a diploma from the School of Law in Jerusalem in 1948; established Al-Hadaf newspaper in Jerusalem in 1950 and regularly contributed articles; was a Professor at the AUB in the mid-1950s; appointed Sec.-Gen. to the Union of Arab Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Beirut in 1957; was a member of the Economic Advisory Council of the League of Arab States; co-founder of the Institute of Palestine Studies (IPS) in Beirut in 1963, a member of its Board of Trustees and editor of the The Palestine Yearbook - an annual volume depicting the history of the Palestinian cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict - from 1967-1970s; Board of Trustees member of the Center for Arab Unity Studies, Beirut, since 1978; taught Economics at several institutes in Beirut; died on 15 Sept. 2000 in Amman; after his death, the IPS published a five-volume book containing selections from his writings in commemoration of his life and efforts, entitled The Political, Economic, and Literary Writings of Burhan Dajani.

من مواليد يافا عام 1921 ؛ خريج الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت عام 1940 تخصص اقتصاد، تولى التدريس في الجامعة نفسها حتى عام 1944 ؛ درس القانون وحصل على شهادة دبلوم من معهد الحقوق الفلسطيني في القدس عام 1948 ؛ أسّس جريدة الهدف في القدس عام 1950 وساهم في كتابة المقالات بصورة منتظمة؛ عمل أستاذاً في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت في أواسط الخمسينات؛ تم تعيينه أميناً عاماً لاتحاد الغرف التجارية والصناعية والزراعية العامة للبلاد العربية مقرها (بيروت) عام 1957 ؛ عضو المجلس الاستشاري للقضايا الاقتصادية بجامعة الدول العربية؛ شارك في تأسيس مؤسسة الدراسات الفلسطينية في بيروت عام 1963 وعضو مجلس أمنائها؛ تولى تحرير الكتاب السنوي للقضية الفلسطينية كتاب سنوي يوثق تاريخ القضية الفلسطينية والصراع العربي الإسرائيلي منذ عام 1967 ولغاية السبعينات؛ عضو مجلس أمناء مركز دراسات الوحدة العربية في بيروت منذ عام 1978 ؛ درّس مادة الاقتصاد في عدة مؤسسات في بيروت؛ توفي في 15 أيلول/سبتمبر عام 2000 في عمان؛ بعد وفاته، نشرت مؤسسة الدراسات الفلسطينية خمسة مجلدات تحتوى على مختارات من كتاباته تخليداً لذكرى حياته وجهوده بعنوان كتابات برهان الدجاني السياسية والاقتصادية والأدبية
