Al-KILANI, SHAWKAT SIDQI ZAID (1929-2002)

Born in Nablus on 28 Sept. 1929; better known as Shawkat Zeid; attended An-Najah School in Nablus and the Ibrahimieh School in Cairo; studied General Medicine at Alexandria University, graduating in 1957; worked as a physician at the Ministry of Health in Kuwait from 1959-62; awarded a fellowship at the Academy of Medicine in Vienna in 1962 and specialized in Internal Medicine in Austria and Germany; continued his studies and received a Diploma in Public Health and Tropical Diseases from Liverpool University, UK, in 1964; returned to Palestine and opened his own clinic in Nablus the same year; became member of the first PNC in 1964; worked as senior medical officer at UNRWA (until 1989); was among those who transformed An-Najah College in Nablus into a University in 1977; served as member of its Board of Trustees; co-founder in 1977 and Board of Trustees member from 1978-85 of the Arab Thought Forum in Jerusalem; served as member of the Palestinian Doctors’ League; co-founder of the Child Care Medical Society for Children; was elected Pres. of An-Najah National University in 1990; Exec. Committee member of the Palestinian Council for Higher Education; elected Vice-Pres. of the Red Crescent Society in Nablus; after the establishment of the PA, was appointed as special advisor to late Pres. Yasser Arafat; died of cancer on 17 Oct. 2002, and was buried in Jordan.

الكيلاني، شوكت زيد (1929 - ) ولد في مدينة نابلس عام 1929؛ تلقى تعليمه في مدرسة النجاح بنابلس ومدرسة الإبراهيمية بالقاهرة؛ درس الطب العام في جامعة الإسكندرية وتخرج عام 1957؛ عمل كطبيب في وزارة الصحة الكويتية خلال الأعوام (1959-1962)؛ منح عضوية fellowship في أكاديمية الطب في فينا عام 1962 وتخصص في الطب الداخلي في استراليا وألمانيا؛ أكمل دراسته وحصل على شهادة دبلوم في الصحة العامة والأمراض الاستوائية من جامعة ليفربول، المملكة المتحدة، عام 1964؛ عاد إلى فلسطين وفتح عيادة خاصة في نابلس في نفس العام؛ أصبح عضواً في المجلس الوطني الفلسطيني الأول عام 1964؛ عمل كمدير طبي رئيسي في الأونروا حتى عام 1989؛ كان من بين المساهمين في تطوير كلية النجاح في نابلس إلى جامعة عام 1977؛ عضو في مجلس أمناء جامعة النجاح؛ عضو مجلس أمناء جمعية الملتقى الفكري العربي بالقدس خلال الأعوام (1978-1985)؛ عضو في نقابة الأطباء الفلسطينيين؛ أحد مؤسسي الجمعية الطبية لرعاية الأطفال؛ انتخب رئيساً لجامعة النجاح الوطنية عام 1990؛ عضو اللجنة التنفيذية لمجلس التعليم العالي؛ انتخب نائب رئيس جمعية الهلال الأحمر الفلسطيني في نابلس؛ توفي من مرض السرطان في السابع عشر من تشرين الأول/ أكتوبر سنة 2002 ودفن في الأردن.
