ABU RAHMEH, FAYEZ (1929-2013)

Born in Gaza on 23 Dec. 1929 to a renowned merchant family; graduated from the Arab College of Jerusalem in 1947; studied Law at Fu’ad I University (now Cairo University), graduating with a BA in 1951; began studies in Journalism at Cairo University in 1952 but stopped to join the Attorney General’s office in Gaza in 1953; resigned in 1955 and worked as a lawyer; was chosen to become a member of the first Afro-Asian Solidarity Conference in Cairo in 1957; member of the High Committee of the Palestinian National Union of Gaza from 1961-67; head of the Gaza Bar Association from 1976-85 and again from 1987-89; served as Vice-Chairman of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society in Gaza since 1979; was, together with Hanna Siniora, the only Palestinian accepted by the US and Israeli governments in Aug. 1985, to become part of a joint Jordanian‑Palestinian delegation to the peace talks; Board of Trustees member of An-Najah National University since 1986; after its establishment in 1994, became a legal adviser of the PA; was appointed by Pres. Yasser Arafat in July 1997 to replace Khaled Al-Qidrah as Attorney General; resigned in May 1998. He died on January 3rd, 2013.

أبو رحمة، فايز (1929 - 2013) ولد في مدينة غزة عام 1929؛ تخرج من الكلية العربية في القدس عام 1947؛ درس الحقوق في جامعة فؤاد الأول (جامعة القاهرة) وتخرج عام 1951؛ عمل في مكتب المدعي العام في غزة عام 1953؛ استقال عام 1955 وزاول مهنة المحاماة؛ تم تعيينه في عضوية مؤتمر التضامن الآسيوي الإفريقي في القاهرة عام 1957؛ عضو في اللجنة العليا للاتحاد الوطني الفلسطيني في غزة بين (1961-1967)؛ رئيس نقابة المحامين في غزة (1976-1985) ثم بين (1987-1989)؛ نائب رئيس جمعية الهلال الأحمر الفلسطيني في غزة منذ عام 1979؛ عينته منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية مع الصحفي حنا سنيورة في آب/أغسطس 1985 كعضوين في الوفد الفلسطيني-الأردني المشارك في أول جولة من المحادثات المشتركة مع الجانب الأمريكي برئاسة جورج شولتز وزير الخارجية؛ عضو مجلس أمناء جامعة النجاح الوطنية منذ عام 1986؛ عمل مستشاراً قانونياً للسلطة الفلسطينية بعد تأسيسها عام 1994 ثم نائباً عاماً في تموز/يوليو 1997 حتى استقالته في أيار/مايو 1998، توفي بتاريخ 3 كانون الثاني/ يناير 2013.
