ZA'NOUN, RIAD (1937-)

Born in Gaza in 1937; attended primary and secondary school in Gaza; enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University in 1954, graduating with a PhD in Medicine in 1960; in 1963, specialized in Internal Medicine; became the head of the Internal Medicine Dept. at Shifa Hospital in Gaza from 1964-70; worked as Registrar of Internal Medicine for the Kuwait Government from 1970-72; then worked at a private Medical Diagnostic Center in Qatar, Gulf, from 1972-90; returned to Palestine and worked as consultant of Internal Medicine to the Gaza Patient Friends Benevolent Society from 1991-93; served as Director of the Palestinian Council of Health in Gaza during 1993-1994; elected PLC member (Fateh) for Gaza City in the 1996 elections; PA Health Min. from 1994 until June 2002; threatened to resign as Minister in June 1997 in connection with doctors` salaries; and again in 2000 over funding for his ministry; Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Gaza Community Mental Health Program.

الزعنون، رياض (1937 - ) ولد في مدينة غزة عام 1937 ؛ أنهى دراسته الابتدائية والثانوية في غزة؛ انتسب إلى كلية الطب في جامعة القاهرة عام 1954 وتخرج بدرجة الدكتوراه في الطب عام 1960 ؛ تخصص في الأمراض الباطنية عام 1963 ؛ أصبح رئيساً لدائرة الأمراض الباطنية في مستشفى الشفاء في غزة (1964 – 1970)؛ عمل في قسم الأمراض الباطنية في الحكومة الكويتية (1970 -1972) ثم في مركز طبي خاص لتشخيص الأمراض في قطر (1972 – 1990)؛ عمل بعد عودته إلى فلسطين كمستشار للأمراض الباطنية في جمعية أصدقاء المريض الخيرية في غزة (1991 – 1993)؛ مدير مجلس الصحة الفلسطيني في غزة (1993 - 1994)؛ انتخب عضواً في المجلس التشريعي (حركة فتح) لمدينة غزة خلال انتخابات عام 1996 ؛ وزير صحة من عام 1994 وحتى حزيران/يونيو 2002 ؛ نائب رئيس مجلس إدارة برنامج غزة للصحة النفسية.
