TAWIL, SUHA ARAFAT (1963-)

Born in Jerusalem in 1963 to a Christian Catholic family; daughter of Raymonda Tawil; grew up in Nablus and Ramallah; attended the Rosary Sisters’ School in Jerusalem; obtained a scholarship at the Sorbonne in Paris; worked as a freelance journalist, based in Paris; was hired by PLO Chairman Arafat to work on his personal staff in Tunis and do PR for the PLO as well as act as Economics Adviser; secretly married Yasser Arafat in 1990; returned to Palestine with her husband in 1994 and settled in Gaza; established and led her own aid organization and engaged in political efforts to improve the status of women in Palestinian society; after the outbreak of the second Intifada in 2000, left with her daughter Zahwa to live in Paris; after the death of her husband in Nov. 2004, she moved to live with her daughter in Tunis.

الطويل، سهى عرفات (1964 - ) ولدت في القدس عام 1963؛ ابنة داود الطويل وريموندة الطويل؛ نشأت في نابلس ورام الله؛ درست في مدرسة راهبات الوردية في القدس؛ نالت بعثة لتكملة دراستها في جامعة السوربون في باريس؛ عملت في مجال الصحافة في باريس؛ عملت في مكتب رئيس منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية ياسر عرفات في تونس وفي مجال العلاقات العامة والاستشارة الاقتصادية؛ تزوجها ياسر عرفات عام 1990؛ عادت إلى فلسطين مع عودة ياسر عرفات وقيادة المنظمة إلى الأراضي المحتلة عام 1994 واستقرت في غزة؛ أسست وقادت جمعيتها الخاصة للتبرعات الإنسانية؛ بعد اندلاع الانتفاضة الثانية عام 2000 انتقلت مع ابنتها إلى باريس، ثم بعد رحيل ياسر عرفات انتقلت للإقامة مع ابنتها ووالدتها في تونس.
