TARAZI, RIMA NASIR (1932-)

Born in Jaffa on 22 March 1932 to a Christian family originally from Birzeit; graduated from the Birzeit College (now Birzeit University) in 1947, where she also studied Music with the renowned Palestinian musician Salvador Arnita; pursued her studies for two years at the American Junior College in Beirut (now the Beirut College for Women), receiving an Associate in Arts degree; moved to Paris to study music (piano with Madame Lucette Descaves and others and composition at L’Ecole Cesar Franck); lived there until 1951, when she had to interrupt her musical studies because of the illness and subsequent death of her aunt Nabiha Nasir (founder of Birzeit College); taught music and other courses at Birzeit College for a year and a half, then pursued her academic studies at the AUB in 1952, graduating in Psychology and Arabic in 1954; while studying, was also active in the student and cultural life, which earned her the Torch of the Junior College and the Presidency of the Women’s Student Organization at the AUB; taught at Birzeit for two years; then followed her husband Dr. Antoine Tarazi to Montreal, Canada, in 1956, where he trained in Neurosurgery; returned in 1960 to settle in Ramallah; was involved in several women’s, cultural and educational organizations, especially after 1967; executive member of the In’ash Al-Usra center in Ramallah since 1968; Board of Trustees member of Birzeit University since 1972; served as Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee of the YWCA from 1982-91 and as Pres. of the YWCA in Ramallah, from 1991-96; co-founder and Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of the National Conservatory of Music (now the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music) since 1993; was the NGO coordinator for the Beijing Women’s International Conference in 1994-95; served as national Pres. of the YCWA of Palestine from 1996-99; Pres. of the Administrative Board of the GUPW since 1999; composes songs expressing the aspirations and dreams of the Palestinian people and puts to music poems written by Arab poets, incl. those of her late cousin Kamal Nasir; these songs have been performed during several occasions by the Birzeit and the YWCA choirs locally and internationally with Palestinian artist Tania Tamari Nasir as a soloist.

ترزي، ريما ناصر (1932 - ) ولدت في يافا عام 1932؛ درست في كلية بيرزيت عام 1947؛ أكملت تعليمها بعد عامين في الكلية الأمريكية في بيروت (كلية بيروت للبنات) ونالت إجازة في الفنون؛ انتقلت إلى باريس لدراسة الموسيقى البيانو مع مدام لوسيت ديسكاف Lucette Descaves ، وفي كلية؛ L’ecole Cesar Franck عاشت في باريس حتى عام 1951 عندما اضطرت إلى ترك دراستها الموسيقية بسبب مرض عمتها نبيهة ناصر (مؤسسة كلية بيرزيت) ووفاتها؛ عملت مدرسة للموسيقى في كلية بيرزيت لمدة عام ونصف ثم أكملت دراستها في الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت عام 1952؛ تخرجت في مجال علم النفس واللغة العربية عام 1954؛ كانت نشطة في الحياة الطلابية والثقافية الأمر الذي جعلها تحصل على وسام الشعلة من الكلية؛ كانت رئيسة منظمة الطالبات في الجامعة الأمريكية؛ علّمت مرة أخرى في جامعة بيرزيت لمدة سنتين؛ انتقلت مع زوجها أنطوان طرزي إلى مونتريال، كندا عام 1956 حيث كان زوجها يكمل تخصصه الطبي؛ عادت عام 1960 للاستقرار في رام الله؛ اشتركت في عدد من المؤسسات النسوية والثقافية والتعليمية، خاصة بعد عام 1967 ؛ عضو جمعية إنعاش الأسرة في رام الله منذ عام 1968؛ عضو مجلس أمناء جامعة بيرزيت منذ عام 1972؛ رئيسة لجنة حقوق الإنسان في جمعية الشابات المسيحية بين 1982-1991 ورئيسة الجمعية في رام الله بين 1991-1996؛ عضو مؤسس ورئيسة المجلس الاستشاري للمعهد الوطني للموسيقى (المعروف الآن بمعهد إدوارد سعيد الوطني للموسيقى) منذ عام 1993 ؛ كانت منسقة المنظمات غير الحكومية في مؤتمر بكين الدولي للمرأة بين 1994-1995؛ رئيسة جمعية الشابات المسيحية في فلسطين بين 1996-1999؛ رئيسة المجلس الاستشاري للاتحاد العام للمرأة الفلسطينية منذ عام 1999 .
