SHUQEIR, MAHMOUD (1941-)

Born in Sawahreh, Jerusalem, in 1941; received a Licentiate from the University of Damascus in 1965, specializing in Philosophy and Sociology; began working as a teacher; then also worked as journalist, writing under different nicknames, incl. Fares Abu Bakr and Ribhi Hafez; was imprisoned by Israeli authorities between 1969-74 and deported to Amman in 1975; received a prize from the Association of Jordanian Writers; wrote stories for TV series; works as playwright and short story writer; his collections include: The Bread of Others (Arabic, 1975), The Palestinian Boy (Arabic, 1977), Rites for the Wretched Woman (Arabic, 1986); and The Silence of Windows (Arabic, Damascus, 1995).

شقير، محمود (1941 - ) من مواليد السواحرة في القدس عام 1941؛ حاصل على ليسانس من جامعة دمشق عام 1965 تخصص فلسفة وعلم اجتماع؛ بدأ العمل كأستاذ، ثم كصحافي، يكتب تحت أسماء مختلفة، بما فيها فارس أبو بكر وربحي حافظ؛ سجنته السلطات الإسرائيلية خلال الأعوام (1969-1974) وقامت بإبعاده إلى عمان عام 1975؛ حائز على جائزة من نقابة الكتاب الأردنيين؛ كتب قصص لمسلسلات تلفزيونية؛ يعمل ككاتب مسرحي وكاتب قصص قصيرة؛ من مجموعاته: خبز الآخرين (عربي، 1975)، الولد الفلسطيني (عربي، 1977)، طقوس للمرأة البائسة (عربي، 1986)، وصمت الشبابيك (عربي، دمشق، 1995).
