AL-SHARAFI, KAMAL AL-ABED (1955-)

Born in Jabalia Refugee Camp, Gaza, in 1955 to a refugee family from Hiribya; attended Ramallah Teacher College and graduated with a diploma in Teaching; studied Medicine at the University of Bulgaria; worked as a surgeon for ten years; was a member of the PFLP; was repeatedly imprisoned by Israel for political activism; was elected to the PLC (independent) for the Jabalia district in the Jan. 1996 elections; served as Chair of the PLC Committee on Human Rights and Public Freedoms in 1999; is member of numerous charitable organizations and committees, incl. the Higher Intifada Committee; was appointed PA Minister of Health in April 2003, serving briefly until the cabinet reshuffle in Oct. 2003; member of the PLO Central Council; serves as Chairman of the Board of the Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights in Gaza; Board of Trustees member of Al-Aqsa University, Gaza; ran unsuccessfully in the 2006 PLC elections (Independent, Jabalia district).

الشرافي، كمال العبد (1955 - ) ولد في مخيم جباليا للاجئين في غزة عام 1955، لعائلة لاجئة؛ التحق بكلية المعلمين في رام الله وتخرج بدرجة دبلوم في التعليم؛ درس الطب في جامعة بلغاريا؛ عمل كطبيب جراح لمدة عشر سنوات؛ كان عضواً في الجبهة الشعبية؛ سجن عدة مرات من قبل الإسرائيلين لأنشطته السياسية؛ انتخب للجماعة العامة المحدودة (المستقلة) لمنطقة جباليا لانتخابات كانون الثاني/ يناير 1996؛ عمل كرئيس مسؤول لهيئة الجماعة العامة المحدودة لحقوق الإنسان والحرية العامة في 1999؛ وكان عضواً لعدة منظمات وهيئات، منها، الهيئة العليا للانتفاضة؛ عين وزيراً للصحة في السلطة الفلسطينية في نيسان أبريل 2003؛ عمل حتى أعيد تشكيل مجلس الوزراء في تشرين الأول/ أكتوبر 2003؛ وعضو للهيئة المركزية لمنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية؛ عمل مسؤولاً عن هيئة مركز الميزان لحقوق الانسان في غزة؛ عضو هيئة المحلفين لجامعة الأقصى في غزة .
