OMAR, ABDUL RAHIM (1929-1993)

Born in Jayyous, near Tulkarem, in 1929; studied in Qalqilya and Tulkarem; then enrolled at the University of London in 1949, where he focused on the study of Arabic and English Literature and Ancient History; returned and worked as a teacher in Jayyous from 1949-53; then moved to Kuwait and worked as a teacher until 1959; settled in Jordan and worked at the Jordanian Radio (until 1965), the cultural section in the Jordanian Ministry of Information (1965), and as producer of Al-Afkar magazine; became Director of the Palestinian section for the Jordanian Ministry of Information in 1967, then Assistant Director of the Jordanian Radio in 1970, and Director of the culture and arts section in the Ministry; also worked as playwright, poet, and as columnist at Ar-Ra’ie magazine; became, in 1974, the first head of the Jordanian Writers’ Union; awarded the Jerusalem Prize for Culture and Arts by the PA Ministry of Culture in 1990; died in Sept. 1993.

عمر، عبد الرحيم (1929-1993) ولد في جيوس (قضاء طولكرم) عام 1929؛ درس في قلقيلية وطولكرم ثم التحق بجامعة لندن عام 1949، حيث درس الأدب العربي والإنجليزي والتاريخ القديم؛ عاد وعمل معلماً في جيوس بين (1949-1953)؛ انتقل إلى الكويت حيث عمل في مجال التدريس حتى عام 1959؛ استقر في الأردن حيث عمل في هيئة الإذاعة الأردنية (حتى عام 1965) وفي القسم الثقافي لوزارة الإعلام في الأردن (1965) وساهم في إصدار مجلة أفكار؛ عمل رئيساً للقسم الفلسطيني لدى وزارة الإعلام في الأردن عام 1967 ثم مساعداً لمدير الإذاعة الأردنية عام 1970 ومديراً لدائرة الثقافة والفنون فيها منذ عام 1971؛ عمل أيضا ككاتب مسرحي وشاعر وكاتب عامود في مجلة الرأي؛ أصبح منذ عام 1974 أول رئيس لاتحاد الكتاب الأردنيين؛ نال وسام القدس للثقافة والفنون من قبل وزارة الثقافة الفلسطينية عام 1990؛ كتب الشعر والنثر والعمل المسرحي والدراسات؛ من أعماله تل العرايس (1965)؛ توفي في 12 أيلول/ سبتمبر 1993.
