BATRAWI, MOHAMMED KHALED (1931-2011)

Born in Ashdod in 1931; studied at the local school; later worked in the Jerusalem Electricity Company; wrote in the Jaffa-based Al-Ittihad paper, in Al-Ghad magazine and other Lebanese and Egyptian papers; contributed in Al-Ufuq Al-Jadid literary journal published in Jerusalem in the early 1960s; editor-in-chief of Al-Fajr (1974-75) and literary editor of Al-Tali’a; was active in the Palestinian Communist Party; also worked as literary critique; in 1990-91, served as General Manager of the Palestine National Theater in Jerusalem; his writings include: Features of Palestinian Theater before the Nakba (published in Al-Zawiya magazine, 2002); Consultant to the PA Ministry of Culture; resides in Ramallah. Died on March 13th, 2011.

البطراوي، محمد خالد (1931 -2011 ) ولد في قرية أسدود عام 1931؛ درس في مدرسة القرية ثم عمل في شركة كهرباء محافظة القدس؛ كتب في جريدة الاتحاد الصادرة في يافا، ومجلة الغد وفي عدد من الصحف اللبنانية والمصرية؛ ساهم في الإشراق على المجلة الأدبية الأفق الجديد الصادرة في القدس في أوائل الستينات؛ رئيس تحرير مجلة الفجر (في الفترة 1974 - 1975) ومحرر أدبي لصحيفة لطليعة؛ كان ناشطاً في الحزب الشيوعي الفلسطيني؛ عمل كناقد أدبي؛ شغل منصب مدير عام المسرح الوطني الفلسطيني في القدس (1990 - 1991)؛ من مؤلفاته خصائص المسرح الفلسطيني قبل النكبة (نشرت في مجلة الزاوية، 2002)؛ مستشار في وزارة الثقافة الفلسطينية. توفي بتاريخ 13 آذار/مارس 2011.
