DAOUD, BISHARA SALIBA SULEIMAN (1934-2011)

Born in Beit Jala on 5 April 1934 to a Palestinian Christian family; attended the Bethlehem secondary school and graduated in 1953; earned a Handicrafts Diploma from the Qalandia Vocational Training Center in 1958; worked as UNRWA academic and vocational instructor in Jordan and Palestine from 1954-72; also supervised vocational training courses for teachers in Syria and Lebanon; served as member of the UNRWA Teachers’ League from 1957-59; from 1959-67, Chairman of the Beit Jala football team, which won the West Bank championship in 1962; was a Board member of the Jordanian Football Union from 1961-65; member of the Ihsan Orthodox Benevolent Society from 1960-72; served as Chairman of the Arab Orthodox Sports Club in Beit Jala from 1969-72; was a member of the Beit Jala Municipal Council from 1972-76 and elected Mayor of Beit Jala from 1976 until Aug. 1978, when he was removed from his post by an Israeli military order; member of the Palestinian Housing Council since 1977; was a founding member of the Council for Higher Education in 1977 (until 1980); member of the National Guidance Committee (representing the area of Bethlehem) from 1979-82; member of the Bethlehem University Board of Trustees from 1979-98 and Vice-Chairman of the Board from 1998-2003; was elected member of the Palestinian Orthodox Mixed Council (representing the Bethlehem area) in 1997; PNC member since 20 Jan. 1996; was elected PLC member (Independent) for the Bethlehem constituency in the Jan. 1996 elections; was Chairman of the PLC’s Land and Settlements Committee as well as member of the Jerusalem and the Council Affairs Committees (until the 2006 PLC elections); has previously served in the Refugee Affairs Committee; participated in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) in Vilnius, Lithuania, in June 2003, where 22 countries were represented; is since elected as member of its Committee on International Policy; completed a Seminar on Democracy and Good Governance at the Institute for International Cooperation in Tokyo organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (April 2004) Died on January 24th 2011.

من مواليد بيت جالا عام 1934 ؛ تلقى تعليمه في مدرسة بيت لحم الثانوية للبنين وتخرج عام 1953 ؛ حصل على شهادة دبلوم في علوم تدريس الأشغال اليدوية من مركز التدريب المهني/ قلنديا عام 1958 ؛ عمل مدرباً ومدرساً لمادة الأشغال اليدوية في مدارس وكالة الغوث في الأردن وفلسطين من عام 1954 – 1972 كما كان مشرفاً تربوياً لدورات تدريب المعلمين المهني في سوريا ولبنان؛ عضو نقابة معلمي وكالة الغوث في الضفة الغربية من عام 1957 - 1959 ؛ رئيس فريق كرة القدم في بيت جالا والذي فاز ببطولة الضفة الغربية عام 1962 ؛ عضو الاتحاد الأردني لكرة القدم في بيت جالا من عام 1961 - 1965 ؛ عضو في جمعية الإحسان الأرثوذكسية في بيت جالا لعدة دورات في الفترة بين 1960 - 1972 ؛ شغل منصب رئيس النادي الأرثوذكسي العربي الرياضي في بيت جالا 1969 - 1972 ؛ عضو مجلس بلدية بيت جالا المنتخب 1972 - 1976 ,وانتخب رئيساً لبلدية بيت جالا من عام 1976 - آب/ أغسطس 1978 ، عندما أقيل بقرار عسكري من محكمة الاحتلال الإسرائيلي؛ عضو مجلس الإسكان الفلسطيني منذ عام 1977 ؛ عضو لجنة التوجيه الوطني ممثلاً منطقة بيت لحم من عام 1979 - 1982 ؛ عضو مجلس أمناء جامعة بيت لحم من عام 1979 - 1998 ونائب رئيس مجلس أمناء الجامعة 1998 - 2003؛ عين عضواً في المجلس الوطني الفلسطيني عام 1996 ؛ انتخب عضواً في المجلس التشريعي الفلسطيني (مستقل) لدائرة بيت لحم في الانتخابات التشريعية عام 1996 ؛ رئيس لجنة القدس ولجنة الأراضي ومواجهة الاستيطان وعضو لجنة شؤون المجلس في المجلس التشريعي الفلسطيني؛ عضو منتخب للمجلس الفلسطيني الأرثوذكسي المختلط ممثلاً محافظة بيت لحم منذ عام 1997 ؛ شارك في عدة مؤتمرات منها مؤتمر برلمانيي حوض البحر المتوسط الذي عقد في أثينا في نيسان/ابريل عام 1997 ومؤتمر حزب العمال البريطاني/لجنة شؤون الشرق الأوسط الذي عقد في برايتون في أيلول/سبتمبر عام 1997 ؛ شارك في المؤتمر الأرثوذكسي العالمي الذي عقد في فلينيوس، ليثوانيا،2003 في حزيران/ يونيو توفي عام 2011
