GHNEIM, AHMAD ZEID (1960-)

Born in the Old City of Jerusalem in 1960; received his elementary and secondary education in Jerusalem; was arrested several times by the Israelis, the first time at the age of 16; joined Fateh in Jerusalem in 1978 and its Al-Asifa forces in South Lebanon in 1981; received military training by Fateh in South Lebanon; received a BA in Social Studies from Al-Riyadh University, Saudi Arabia, in 1984; was twice arrested in 1984, and the second time imprisoned for three years for his involvement with Fateh; served as Director of a Counseling Center for Addicts from 1989-94; member of the Fateh Higher Committee since 1990; was a member of the Palestinian delegation to the Washington peace talks during 1991-93; was a member of the Preventive Security Forces from 1994-96, holding the rank of a General; continued his studies (distance MA in Psychology from Beverly University, US); Deputy Assistant in the Ministry of Local Government since 1996; member of the Fateh Revolutionary Council since 1997; close to Marwan Barghouthi and served as head of his electoral campaign in Dec. 2004 until his withdrawal from the elections; one of the Fateh representatives to the national dialogue among Palestinian factions; became a member of the National and Islamic Forces in the second Intifada; served as Assistant Deputy Minister of Local Government from 2004; has published several papers and articles incl. a study on Jerusalem and a study on Palestinian borders.

من مواليد البلدة القديمة بالقدس عام 1960؛ تلقى تعليمه الابتدائي والثانوي في القدس؛ اعتقلته القوات الإسرائيلية عدة مرات، كان أولها عندما كان يبلغ ستة عشر عاماً؛ انضم إلى حركة فتح في القدس عام 1978 وقوات العاصفة التابعة للحركة في جنوب لبنان عام 1981؛ حاصل على شهادة بكالوريوس في الدراسات الاجتماعية من جامعة الرياض، المملكة العربية السعودية، عام 1984؛ اعتقل مرتين عام 1984، تضمنت المرة الثانية الحكم بالسجن لمدة ثلاث سنوات؛ شغل منصب مدير مركز إرشاد للمدمنين في القدس خلال الفترة من عام 1989 - 1994؛ عضو اللجنة الحركية العليا لحركة فتح منذ عام 1990؛ عضو في الوفد الفلسطيني لمباحثات السلام التي عقدت في واشنطن من عام 1991 - 1993؛ عضو في قوات الأمن الوقائي في الفترة من عام 1994 – 1996 وكان يحمل رتبة عقيد؛ تابع دراساته العليا ماجستير بالمراسلة في علم النفس من جامعة بيفرلي، الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية؛ نائب مساعد في وزارة الحكم المحلي الفلسطيني منذ عام 1996؛ عض و المجل س الثوري لحركة فتح منذ عام 1997؛ أحد ممثلي حركة فتح في الحوار الوطني بين الفصائل الفلسطينية؛ شارك مع القيادات الوطنية والإسلامية في الانتفاضة الثانية؛ نشر عدة أوراق ومقالات، بما فيها دراسة عن القدس ودراسة عن الحدود الفلسطينية؛ مدير مؤسسة إعلامية في رام الله في مطلع العام 2007.
