HAMDAN, RABIHA DIAB HUSSEIN (1954-2016)

Born in Durat Al-Qar’ near Ramallah on 25 Dec. 1954; Fateh activist; first arrested by Israeli authorities when she was 12 years old, followed by other imprisonment sentences and house arrests; spent a total of some seven years in prison; held various Fateh positions while inside the prison; received a BA in Sociology/Social Work from Bethlehem University (graduating after 25 years following imprisonment and house arrests); member of the Palestinian university student leadership and of different Fateh committees; Chairperson of the Union of Women Committees for Social Work; Board member of the Women’s Affairs Technical Committees and the GUPW; member of the founding commission of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club; member of the PLO, the PNC, and the Fateh Revolutionary Council; participates in different Women’s activities both locally and internationally; Dir.-Gen. in the PA Ministry of Youth; was elected as PLC member (Fateh list) in the Jan. 2006 elections.

ولدت في دورا القرع بالقرب من رام الله عام 1954؛ اعتقلتها السلطات الإسرائيلية أول مرة عندما كانت في الثانية عشر من عمرها، تلاها فرض إقامات جبرية وأحكام بالسجن؛ قضت ما مجموعه سبع سنوات في السجن؛ حصلت على شهادة البكالوريوس في علم الاجتماع / خدمة اجتماعية من جامعة بيت لحم؛ عضو في قيادة طلبة الجامعة الفلسطينيين؛ ترأست لجان اتحاد المرأة للعمل الاجتماعي؛ عضو في مجلس إدارة طاقم شؤون المرأة والاتحاد العام للمرأة الفلسطينية؛ عضو في اللجنة التأسيسية لنادي الأسير الفلسطيني؛ عضو في المجلس المركزي لمنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية، المجلس الوطني الفلسطيني، والمجلس الثوري لحركة فتح؛ شاركت في العديد من النشاطات النسوية محلياً وعالمياً؛ عملت في منصب مدير عام وزارة الشباب الفلسطينية، انتخبت عضواً في المجلس التشريعي الفلسطيني في يناير/ كانون الثاني 2006.
