HASHIM, IHSAN SHAKER (1908-1976)

Born in Nablus in 1908; attended An-Najah National School in Nablus, then at the Arab College in Jerusalem; went to Beirut to study at the AUB, graduating with a BA in History and Political Science in 1928; returned to Jerusalem and began his professional career as teacher at Al-Rashidiyeh School; then worked in the British School Authority in Palestine and became a Political Secretary to the High Commissioner; served as District Governor in various cities from 1947-53, incl. in Jaffa, Nablus, Gaza, Lydda, Ramleh and Jerusalem; became Director of the Jordanian Broadcasting Service in Amman in 1953; was appointed as Under-Secretary to the Foreign Ministry in Jordan in 1953-54, then served as Ambassador in France (1954-56) and the UK (1958-59); was elected a member in the Jordanian Upper House in 1959; appointed as Governor of Jerusalem in 1960; served as Ambassador to India from in 1961-63; died in Jerusalem in Sept. 1976 and was buried in Nablus.

ولد في القدس في عام 1908؛ درس وتخرج من مدرسة النجاح الوطنية في نابلس، ثم بالكلية العربية في القدس؛ نال شهادة البكالوريوس في التاريخ والعلوم السياسية في 1928 من الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت؛ عاد إلى القدس وبدأ حياته المهنية مدرساً في مدرسة الرشيدية؛ ثم عمل في مكاتب الانتداب البريطانية في فلسطين وأصبح الأمين السياسي للمفوض السامي؛ عمل حاكم منطقة في مدن مختلفة من 1947 - 1953، منها، يافا ونابلس وغزة واللد والرملة والقدس؛ أصبح مديراً للإذاعة الأردنية في عمان في 1953؛ عين وكيل وزارة الخارجية الأردنية في 1953 - 1954 ثم عمل سفيراً في فرنسا 1954 - 1956والمملكة المتحدة 1958 - 1959؛ عين عضواً في مجلس الأعيان الأردني في 1959 ؛ عين حاكماً محافظ للقدس في 1960؛ عمل سفيراً في الهند من 1961 - 1963؛ توفي في الأردن في أيلول/سبتمبر 1976 ودفن في نابلس.
