HIJJAWI, SULAFA (1934-)

Born in Nablus in 1934; received a BA in English Literature and an MA in Political Science from the University of Baghdad; worked as a teacher; one of the editors of the Review of the Center for Palestinian Studies at Baghdad University from 1974-1980; later moved to Tunis, where she worked in translation, especially of Palestinian poetry into English; has edited and translated Poetry of Resistance in Occupied Palestine (Iraqi Ministry of Culture and Guidance, 1969) and David Sinclair’s Edgar Allan Poe (into Arabic); her own writings include political articles published in Arabic newspapers and a collection of her prose poems Palestinian Songs (1977).

من مواليد مدينة نابلس عام 1934؛ حاصلة على شهادة البكالوريوس في الأدب الانجليزي وعلى شهادة الماجستير في العلوم السياسية من جامعة بغداد في العراق؛ عملت كمدرسة؛ أحد محرري مجلة مركز الدراسات الفلسطينية في جامعة بغداد خلال الأعوام 1974 - 1980؛ ثم انتقلت إلى تونس حيث عملت في مجال الترجمة، خاصة القصائد الفلسطينية إلى اللغة الانجليزية؛ حررت وترجمت قصيدة المقاومة في فلسطين المحتلة وزارة الثقافة والتوجيه العراقية، 1969و Edgar Allan Poe ل ديفيد سنكلير إلى اللغة العربية؛ ومن مؤلفاتها الخاصة مقالات سياسية نشرت في صحف عربية ومجموعة من قصائدها النثرية أغاني فلسطينية 1977: عملت مديرة لمركز الأرشيف الوطني الفلسطيني بعد تأسيس السلطة الفلسطينية عام 1996.
