KANA'AN, SA'ID MISBAH (1940-)

Born in Nablus in 1940 (his father was the General Manager of the Arab Bank in Saudi Arabia); graduated with a BA in Economics from the AUB in 1963; joined the ANM but left when it was transformed into the PFLP in 1967; worked in the Arab Bank from 1964-66, then in the Jordan Vegetable Oil Industries Company in Nablus from 1966-67; joined the Getty Oil Company in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 1967-73; joined Fateh while in Saudi Arabia and became one of the founders of the Popular Committee for the Assistance of the Martyrs of Palestine in Saudi Arabia, after 1973, moved to private business in the West Bank with a joint animal feed factory near Hawarah; also opened a factory for tahina (sesame juice) production and a wholesale business specialized in cosmetics, perfumeries, etc.; one of the founders of the National Front and member of its Exec. Committee (was dissolved in the 1976 municipal elections and replaced by the National Guidance Committee); had contacts with Israeli politicians like Shimon Peres as early as 1982; was Board of Trustees member of Al-Fajr daily newspaper; served as Sec.-Gen. of the Red Crescent Society; Chairman of An-Najah University’s Friends Society; Chairman of the Board of the Center for Palestine Research and Studies (CPRS) in Nablus, founded in 1993.

من مواليد مدينة نابلس عام 1940؛ حصل على شهادة البكالوريوس تخصص اقتصاد من الجامعة الأمريكية ببيروت عام 1963 ؛ التحق بحركة القوميين العرب، ولكنه ترك الحركة عندما تحولت إلى الجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطين عام 1967؛ عمل في البنك العربي خلال الأعوام 1964 - 1966، ثم في شركة صناعات الزيوت النباتية الأردنية في نابلس خلال 1966 - 1967 ؛ عمل في شركة جيتي للزيوت في الرياض، المملكة العربية السعودية، خلال 1967 - 1973؛ انضم إلى حركة فتح وأحد مؤسسي اللجنة الشعبية لمساعدة شهداء فلسطين في السعودية؛ وبعد عام 1973، ساهم في تأسيس شركة تجارية خاصة في الضفة الغربية ومصنع لتغذية الحيوانات في حواره؛ ومصنعاً لإنتاج الطحينة عصير السمسم؛ عضو في اللجنة الأهلية البلدية حتى إجراء الانتخابات البلدية عام 1976؛ كان عضواً في مجلس أمناء جريدة الفجر؛ أمين عام جمعية الهلال الأحمر الفلسطيني؛ رئيس جمعية الأصدقاء في جامعة النجاح؛ أسس وأدار مركز الدراسات والبحوث الفلسطينية في نابلس .
