KANAANA, SHARIF (1935-)

Born in ‘Arrabat al-Batuf, Galilee, in 1935; received a BA in Psychology and Economics from Yankton College, South Dakota, in 1965, and an MA in Anthropology from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, in 1968; worked as an instructor in Psychology at Hawaii community college from 1967-69, then at the University of Hawaii from 1971-72; and Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii; from 1972-75, worked as Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin; in the meantime, continued his studies and earned a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, in 1975; returned to Palestine and became Assistant Professor at Birzeit University, first at the Dept. of Psychology and Education (1975-76), then at the Sociology and Anthropology Dept., where he also served as Chairman (1976-81); then moved to An-Najah National University, Nablus, working as Associate Professor and Dean of Faculty of Arts (1981-83) and as Acting Pres. from 1983-85; returned to Birzeit University as Director for the Research and Documentation Center (1985-89), then as Associate Professor (1989-96) and full Professor (since 1996) at the of Sociology and Anthropology Dept.; has written numerous papers and articles as well (co-)authored and edited several books, incl., Speak Bird, Speak Again: Palestinian Arab Folktales (Berkeley, Ca.,1989), Ed-Dar Dar Abuna (‘This is our Father’s Home’): Collective Papers in Palestinian Folklore (Jerusalem, 1992), Es-Shatat Alfilistini (‘Palestine Diaspora: Collected Papers on the 1948 Eviction of the Palestinian People’) (Jerusalem 1992), Folk Heritage of Palestine (Taybeh, 1994), and Discourse and Palestine: Power, Text and Context (Amsterdam, 1994).

ن مواليد عرابة البطوف، الجليل، عام 1935 ؛ حصل على شهادة البكالوريوس في علم النفس والاقتصاد من يانكستون، جنوب داكوتا عام 1965 ، وعلى شهادة الماجستير في علم الإنسان من جامعة هاواي، هونولولو، عام 1968 ؛ عمل أستاذاً في علم النفس في كلية هاواي المجتمعية خلال 1967 - 1969 ، ثم في جامعة هاواي خلال 1970 - 1972؛ عمل كأستاذ مساعد في جامعة هاواي ؛ وعمل كأستاذ مساعد في علم الإنسان في جامعة وسكنسن Wisconsin الأمريكية خلال الأعوام 1972 - 1975؛ وفي تلك الأثناء أكمل دراسته ونال شهادة الدكتوراه في علم الإنسان من جامعة هاواي، هونولولو، عام 1975 ؛ عاد إلى فلسطين وأصبح أستاذاً مساعداً في جامعة بيرزيت، أولاً في دائرة التربية وعلم النفس خلال 1975 - 1976 ثم في دائرة علم الاجتماع والإنسان، وترأس الدائرة 1976 - 1981 ؛ ثم انتقل إلى جامعة النجاح الوطنية في نابلس وعمل كأستاذ مشارك وأصبح عميداً لكلية الآداب خلال 1981 - 1983، ثم أصبح رئيس الجامعة بالوكالة خلال 1983 - 1985؛ عاد إلى جامعة بيرزيت وأصبح مدير مركز الأبحاث والتوثيق خلال 1985 - 1989، وبعد ذلك عمل أستاذاً مشاركاً خلال 1989 - 1996 في دائرة علم الاجتماع والإنسان في جامعة بيرزيت؛ كتب العديد من المقالات والأوراق وألف وحرر عدة كتب، بما فيها التغير الاجتماعي والتوافق النفسي لدى السكان العرب في إسرائيل بيرزيت، 1978، حكايات شعبية فلسطينية - بالاشتراك مع إبراهيم مهوى بيركلي، كاليفورنيا، 1989 الكتاب لم يترجم إلى اللغة العربية وعنوانه الأصل ي Speak Bird, Speak Again ، الدار دار أبونا هذا بيت أبونا: مجموعة أوراق عن الفلكلور الفلسطيني )القدس، 1992 (، الشتات الفلسطيني ) مجموعة أوراق عن تشريد الشعب الفلسطيني عام 1948 القدس، 1992 ( تراث فلسطين ) طيبة، 1948 ، أسلوب الخطابة وفلسطين: القوة، النص والسياق=أمستردام، 1994
