KHALAF, SABRI (1899-1969)

Born in Bethany, Jerusalem, in 1899; was the first to establish a local elected council in Jericho and served as its head from 1934; founded the Palestinian Agricultural Industrial Chamber of Commerce and served as its first Chairman (until his death in 1969); was a member in the Arab Chambers of Commerce; helped develop the agricultural sector and contributed in adding new technological methods; worked on opening new channels for exporting agricultural products to Arab countries like Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Iran and others; one of the founders of the PLO in 1964; his son Jamil Sabri Khalaf later also became mayor of Jericho; died in 1969

ولد في العيزرية بالقدس عام 1899 ؛ أول من أسس مجلس محلي منتخب لمدينة أريحا وترأس المجلس من عام 1934 واستمر في المنصب لمدة ستة عشر عاماً؛ أسس الغرفة التجارية الصناعية الزراعية الفلسطينية وانتخب أول رئيس لها حتى وفاته عام 1969 ؛ عضواً في اتحاد الغرف التجارية العربية؛ ساهم في تطوير القطاع الزراعي وأدخل أحدث الأساليب التكنولوجية في الزراعة؛ كان له دور فاعل في تصدير المنتجات الزراعية للدول العربية والإسلامية/ الأردن، السعودية، قطر، البحرين، إيران، وغيرها؛ عضو المجلس الوطني الفلسطيني المنعقد في القدس لتأسيس منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية عام 1964 ؛ توفي في الرابع عشر من تشرين الثاني/ نوفمبر عام 1969 .
