KHALIDI, RASHID (1948-)

Born in New York City in 1948; received a BA in History from Yale University in 1970 and a PhD in Modern History from Oxford University in 1974; taught at the AUB and the Lebanese University; was Professor of Middle East History and Director of the Center for International Studies at the University of Chicago, US, from 1987-93; has also taught at Georgetown and Columbia universities; served as advisor to the Palestinian delegation to the 1991 Madrid Conference and the subsequent bilateral negotiations in Washington, until June 1993; was critical of the DoP and Oslo process; Pres. of the Middle East Association (1994); Pres. and founding member of the American Committee on Jerusalem since 1996; co-editor of several books, incl. Palestine and the Gulf (Institute for Palestine Studies, 1982) and The Origins of Arab Nationalism (Columbia University Press, 1991) and author of numerous articles and books, incl. Under Siege: PLO Decision-making during the 1982 War (Columbia University Press, 1986), Palestinian Identity: The Construction of Modern National Consciousness (Columbia University Press, 1997),and Resurrecting Empire: Western Footprints and America’s Perilous Path in the Middle East (Beacon Press, 2004); Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies, and Director of the Middle East Institute at Columbia University, US;

ولد في مدينة نيويورك في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية عام 1948 ؛ حصل على شهادة البكالوريوس في التاريخ من جامعة ييل الأمريكية عام 1970 ، وعلى شهادة الدكتوراه في التاريخ الحديث من جامعة أكسفورد عام 1974 ؛ درّس في الجامعة الأمريكية والجامعة اللبنانية في بيروت؛ أستاذ في تاريخ الشرق الأوسط ومدير مركز الدراسات الدولية في جامعة شيكاغو في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية خلال 1987 - 1993؛ درّس في جامعتي جورج تاون وكولومبيا؛ مستشار الوفد الفلسطيني في مؤتمر مدريد للسلام الذي عقد عام 1991 والمفاوضات الثنائية المتعاقبة في واشنطن حتى حزيران عام 1993 ؛ انتقد إعلان المبادئ وعملية أوسلو؛ رئيس جمعية الشرق الأوسط 1994 ؛ رئيس وعضو مؤسس اللجنة الأمريكية عن القدس منذ عام 1996 ؛ حرر عدة كتب، بما فيها فلسطين والخليج )مؤسسة الدراسات الفلسطينية، 1982، أصول القومية العربية جامعة كولومبيا للصحافة، 1991 ومؤلف عدة مقالات وكتب، بما فيها تحت الحصار: اتخاذ القرار من قبل منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية خلال حرب أل 1982 )جامعة كولومبيا للصحافة، 1986، الهوية الفلسطينية: بناء الضمير الوطني الحديث جامعة كولومبيا للصحافة، 1997، إحياء الإمبراطورية: البصمات الغربية وطريق أمريكا المحفوف بالمخاطر في الشرق الأوسط بيكن للصحافة، 2004؛ بروفيسور ادوارد سعيد للدراسات العربية، ومدير مؤسسة الشرق الأوسط في جامعة كولومبيا، الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية
