AL-KHEIRI, MUSTAFA (SHEIKH) (1879-1950)

Born in Ramleh in 1879; brother of Khlousi Al-Kheiri; attended Turkish schools in Ramleh; graduated with the ‘Alamiyah Certificate from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, in 1895; then attended the Teachers’ College in Istanbul, graduating with a Diploma in Arabic Language Education; worked for three years as elementary school teacher in Ramleh; was appointed Shari’a Court Judge in Ramleh for four years; resigned after that and worked in the field of business; was elected mayor of Ramleh from 1917; was an active member of the opposition group led by Ragheb Nashashibi; received the Member of the British Empire Medal from the British government in 1924 and the Officer of the British Empire label in 1941; was member of the National Defense Party (Hizb Ad-Difa’a Al-Watani; author of a book on Hanafi Fatwa (legal jurisprudence); served again as mayor of Ramleh from the early 1920s until the end of WWII; fled from Ramleh during the 1948 Nakba; died in Ramallah in 1950.

الخيري، الشيخ مصطفى (1879 - 1950) ولد في الرملة عام 1879؛ تلقى تعليمه في المدارس التركية في الرملة؛ خريج جامعة الأزهر بالقاهرة عام 1895 وحصل على الشهادة العلمية؛ ثم تابع دراسته في معهد المعلمين في اسطنبول وحصل على شهادة دبلوم في تعليم اللغة العربية؛ عمل مدرساً للصفوف الابتدائية في الرملة لمدة ثلاث أعوام؛ عين قاضياً في المحكمة الشرعية في الرملة لمدة أربع سنوات؛ ثم قدم استقالته وعمل في مجال التجارة؛ انتخب رئيساً لبلدية الرملة من عام 1917؛ حصل على عضو ميدالية الإمبراطورية البريطانية Member of the British Empire Medal من الحكومة البريطانية عام 1924 ومدير الإمبراطورية البريطانية Officer of the British Empire Label عام 1941؛ مؤلف كتاب أبي حنيفة و فتاوي في التشريع القانوني؛ شغل منصب رئيس بلدية الرملة مرة أخرى في بداية العشرينات حتى نهاية الحرب العالمية الثانية.
