Dr. Said Zeedani

Born in Tamra, near Haifa, on 14 Jan. 1950; enrolled at the University of Haifa in 1969, graduating with a BA in Philosophy and English Language and Literature in 1973; taught English as a second language at Tamra High School from 1970-76; joined the MA Program in Philosophy at the University of Haifa from 1973-75; received an MA (1979) and a PhD (1982) in Philosophy (with a minor in Comparative Literature) from the University of Wisconsin, Madison; joined Birzeit University in 1982 as Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Cultural Studies; served as Chairperson of the Dept. of Philosophy and Cultural Studies at Birzeit University in 1984/5, 1986/7 and 1987/88; became Program Coordinator and Director of Al-Haq (Law in the Service of Man) in Ramallah from 1990-Oct. 1992; Board of Trustees member of PASSIA since 1991; editor of issue no. 7 of Afaq Filastiniyyah (Palestinian Horizons) journal in 1993; Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Birzeit University from 1995-98; joined Al-Quds University in Jerusalem in 1998, holding the positions of Dean of Students and UNESCO Chair in Freedom of Expression during 1999-2000; served as member of the Palestinian National Prize Committee in 2000-01; acted as Dir.-Gen. of PICCR from 2000-04; Assistant for Community Development to the Al-Quds University President in 2004-2005; has participated in a variety of study visits and conferences both locally and internationally; has written and edited various publications on democracy and human rights, the Palestinians inside Israel, and politics and ethics; Associate Professor of Philosophy at Al-Quds University.
