This booklet was published against the backdrop of the ‘Al-Aqsa Intifada’ as an attempt to analyze the July 2000 Camp David summit which preceded it. The essay assesses from the point of view of an independent Palestinian academic, the internal political dynamics of the two sides and the resultant clashes. Dr. Abdul Hadi examines the underlying tensions within the Palestinian leadership and political groupings and points to the factors effecting their support or rejection by the Palestinian public. The booklet offers and overview of the present power struggle in Israeli politics before surveying the themes surrounding the continuing violence in the occupies territories and asking if the ‘Lebanonization’ of the conflict will prevail.
