Zuheir Muhsin

Birth: NULL/NULL/1936 Death:NULL/NULL/1979
Born in Tulkarem in 1936; trained as a teacher in Amman; joined the Ba‘athist Party in 1953; worked as a mathematics teacher in Amman until 1957 when he was detained by the Jordanian authorities; moved to Qatar, Kuwait and then Syria in 1967; served as Vice-Pres. of the PNC from July 1968-July 1971; aided in the creation of As-Saiqa in 1968; became a loyalist of Hafiz Al-Assad after his coming to power in Syria in 1970; was appointed by Pres. Assad as Sec.-Gen. of As-Saiqa in 1971 (until 1979); member of the PLO Exec. Committee, serving as head of its Military Dept.; member of the Committee that drafted the program adopted by the PNC in 1974, advocating the creation of a Palestinian state in any occupied territory liberated from Israel; was assassinated – most probably by Israeli agents – in Cannes in July 1979 upon his return from an African Summit in Monrovia.
