Born in Hebron on 19 Nov. 1962; attended Nablus Secondary School, graduating in 1980; received a Certificate in Russian Language from the Minsk Institute for Foreign Languages, Byelorussia in 1981 and an MA in Journalism (1986) from Byelorussia State University, Minsk; returned to the West Bank and worked as Nablus-area correspondent for Al-Fajr newspaper, Jerusalem, as well as translated books from Russian into Arabic during 1986-87; continued his studies and earned a PhD in Philology from Byelorussia State University in 1991; from 1991-95 filmed/contributed to several documentaries; founded Al-Balad Press Institute in Ramallah in 1992, serving as its Director until 1994; works as professional trainer in the field of media since 1993 and as freelance media consultant since 1996; was a Board member of the Jerusalem Film Institute from 1993-Sept. 1996; worked as Assistant Professor of Journalism at Birzeit University from 1994-96; served as Acting Director for the Media Program at Birzeit University from 1996-99 and co-founder of the Center into which it developed; worked as Correspondent for the Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC), Jerusalem, from March 1997-Sept. 2002; Board member of the Popular Arts Center since 1997; was Director of the Media Institute at Birzeit University from Sept. 1999-March 2002; member, Counsel of the graduate studies program in Democracy and Human Rights (2000-02); Board member of Bisan Center for Research and Development since 2003; Bureau Chief of MEN (Middle East News), Palestine/Israel, and Executive Editor of Al-Arabiya news channel since July 2004; regularly publishes articles in local papers.
