Born in Haifa in 1940; studied in Bonn and Leipzig, Germany, and earned a Diploma in Economics in 1973; worked in the foreign relations office of Fateh in 1974; served as assistant of PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat from 1974-83; was head of the PLO’s Foreign Information Dept. in Lebanon from 1975-82; from 1975-83, also served as spokesperson of the PLO and was editor-in-chief of the PLO Palestine Bulletins in English and French distributed in Beirut and Tunis; was spokesperson of the PNC from 1977-82; after the PLO left Beirut in 1982, moved briefly to Greece, then joined the PLO in Tunis for one year; left his political work and turned to the field of media and journalism, incl. writing, from 1984-95; moved between Paris, Tunis and Damascus during that period; was appointed Dir.-Gen. of the PA Ministry of Economy and Trade from 1995-97; then became Director of the Aid Coordination and NGO Dept. at PECDAR from 1997-99; served as Dir.-Gen. of the PLC from 1999-2006; was among the Palestinians who signed the statement in March 2004 that called for a nonviolent Intifada; author of three books on the Zionist media (incl. Basic Points of Departure in Zionist Media-Related Thought, 1982), a study on the siege of Beirut, and two novels. He died on April 10th, 2014.
