Born in Thinnabeh, Tulkarem on 25 March 1957; received a BA in Psychology from the University of Jordan in Amman in 1980; worked as a social worker and unionist at the General Trade Union in Nablus from 1981-82; was one of the founders of Union of Palestinian Working Women Committees (UPWWC); was an active unionist and women’s rights activist; attended training courses in Management at Birzeit University’s Continuing Education Dept. from 1988-99; since 1990, Dir.-Gen. of the Palestinian Working Women Society for Development in Ramallah (formerly the UPWWC); has worked with the Technical Affairs Committees in 1994, training women in leadership and lobbying; has coordinated the Palestinian Women Legal Charter, which was submitted to the PA; has trained Greek and Cypriot women in Conflict Resolution and taught illiteracy courses to Palestinian refugee women in Jordan; actively involved with a number of Israeli women’s organizations, incl. The Jerusalem Link; head of several women’s delegation to international conferences; member of the Mediterranean Women’s Network and the International and Arab Unions for Workers Education; has written extensively on women issues; studies towards a MA in International Studies at Birzeit University since 2004.
