Born in Deir Al-Assad, near Acre, on 31 July 1941; went to school in Kufr Yassif, Western Galilee; studied Law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem; was a member of Al-Ard movement in the 1950s and 1960s; was arrested for two months for traveling to Jerusalem without a permit from the military governor; lived under house arrest for five years; during the 1967 War, was imprisoned for 18 days in Al-Damoun Prison near Haifa; trained as an advocate at the law office of Hanna Naqara; defended many political activists, incl. Subhi Ghosheh and As’ad Abdul Rahman; currently works on personal status issues; writes on social, political and cultural topics from a leftist progressive point of view, advocating social justice.
