Born in the village of Suhmata, near Acre, in Sept. 1924; became a refugee during the 1948 War; worked as a teacher in Ein Al-Hilweh RC in Lebanon (among his students was Naji Al-Ali); was active in national and worker leagues; joined the ANM and became member of its first Palestine Committee, established in 1959; later joined the PFLP; was arrested along with George Habash in Syria in March 1968 and detained for eight months; member of the first PFLP politburo in Feb. 1969, in charge of finance; leading PFLP official in Lebanon from 1972 and PFLP representative to the PLO Exec. Committee from 1973, where he served as head of the Dept. of Popular Organizations, but resigned over the formation of the Rejectionist Front in Sept. 1974; returned to the same position in April 1981 after the PFLP joined the PLO (until 1984 when he joined a boycott); retired from active politics in 1991; published his autobiography in Lebanon in 5 volumes in 2004 (two additional volumes he wants to have published only after his death); died in 2011.
